"Christmas spirit" is not what you drink...

Buon Natale!

A Christmas Song by Jethro Tull (1972)

Once in Royal David's City
Stood a lonely cattle shed
Where a mother held her baby
You'd do well to remember the things He later said

When you're stuffing yourselves at the Christmas parties
You'll just laugh when I tell you to take a running jump
You're missing the point I'm sure does not need making
That Christmas spirit is not what you drink

So how can you laugh when your own mother's hungry
And how can you smile when the reasons for smiling are wrong?
And if I just messed up your thoughtless pleasures
Remember, if you wish, this is just a Christmas song

(Hey, Santa, pass us that bottle, will you?)

Bridge over troubled water

When you're weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all
I'm on your side when times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pains is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on silvergirl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

Everything in its right place / Maiden voyage

Remember a day... (again)

Due giorni fa David Gilmour ha ricordato Rick Wright suonando "Remember a Day" durante lo show "Later with Jools Holland", accompagnato dalla sua band abituale (Carin, Manzanera, Pratt, DiStanislao). Un tributo sincero, e un pezzo veramente adatto all'occasione (nell'originale, su "A Saucerful of Secrets" la chitarra era suonata da Syd, ed era una sempre una Telecaster...)

Sea song

You look different every time
You come
from the foam-crested brine
Your skin shining softly in the moonlight
Partly fish, partly porpoise, partly baby sperm-whale
Am I yours? Are you mine to play with?
Joking apart - when you're drunk you're terrific when you're drunk
I like you mostly late at night you're quite alright

But I can't understand the different you
In the morning
when it's time
To play at being human for a while please smile!

You'll be different in the spring, I know
You're a seasonal beast
Like the starfish that drift in with the tide, with the tide

So until your blood runs to meet the next full moon
Your madness fits in nicely with my own
Your lunacy fits neatly with my own, my very own

We're not alone

Dal sito di David Gilmour...

"No one can replace Richard Wright. He was my musical partner and my friend.
In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd, Rick's enormous input was frequently forgotten.
He was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognised Pink Floyd sound.
I have never played with anyone quite like him. The blend of his and my voices and our musical telepathy reached their first major flowering in 1971 on 'Echoes'. In my view all the greatest PF moments are the ones where he is in full flow. After all, without 'Us and Them' and 'The Great Gig In The Sky', both of which he wrote, what would 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' have been? Without his quiet touch the Album 'Wish You Were Here' would not quite have worked.
In our middle years, for many reasons he lost his way for a while, but in the early Nineties, with 'The Division Bell', his vitality, spark and humour returned to him and then the audience reaction to his appearances on my tour in 2006 was hugely uplifting and it's a mark of his modesty that those standing ovations came as a huge surprise to him, (though not to the rest of us).
Like Rick, I don't find it easy to express my feelings in words, but I loved him and will miss him enormously."

Remember a day...

RICHARD WRIGHT
28/7/1943 - 15/9/2008

Remember a day before today
A day when you were young
Free to play along with time
Evening never comes

Sing a song that can't be sung
Without the morning's kiss
Queen you shall be it if you wish
Look for your king

Why can't we play today?
Why can't we stay that way?

Climb your favourite apple tree
Try to catch the sun
Hide from your little brother's gun
Dream yourself away

Why can't we reach the sun?
Why can't we blow the years away?
Blow away
Blow away
Remember
Remember

/mɛð sʏð i ˈeiːrʏm vɪð ˈspɪːlʏm ˈɛntaløyst/
